Winner of the prestigious 2011 Cleveland International Piano Competition, Alexander Schimpf joins the ESO and Elgin Choral Union for Beethoven’s Choral Fantasy, an homage to the sublime beauty of music inspired by the divine. Donato Cabrera, music director of the Green Bay Symphony Orchestra, leads the ESO in this performance of Brahms’ Schicksalslied, Schubert’s Symphony in C major – “The Great,” and the Choral Fantasy.

It’s a gathering of ESO favorites when, back for a second engagement with the ESO, acclaimed trio Time for Three performs Pulitzer Prize-winner Jennifer Higdon’s Concerto 4-3. Conductor Alastair Willis returns to Elgin to lead this performance that also includes John Estacio’s Spring’s Promise and the much loved Symphony No. 5 in E minor by Tchaikovsky.

Whenever music-lovers are asked to name their favorite composers, Tchaikovsky inevitable appears near the top of the list. His orchestral tone poem, inspired by Shakespeare’s brilliant play of the same name, will conjure up some truly tempestuous excitement. But the 4th Symphony concludes with its own magnificent orchestral storm that will have you cheering for this extraordinary stage-full of gifted musicians. Add to that an appearance by the winner of a major piano competition and you will experience an indelibly memorable evening at the symphony.
