Violin Concerto in D

Borodin

Symphony No. 2 in b minor

Each season we seize the opportunity to showcase our incomparable Concertmaster, Ilya Kaler. This program draws its inspiration from Maestro Kaler’s country of origin, Russia, and has as its centerpiece the Tchaikovsky concerto, among the most beloved and spectacularly impressive works ever written for violin. Surrounding it will be the irresistibly romantic music of Borodin, whose extraordinary outpouring of beautiful melodies in Prince Igor was mined for the musical, Kismet. His second symphony stands alongside those of Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninoff as one of the most beautiful symphonies ever written.
