Exiles in Hollywood

This weekend's Elgin Symphony Orchestra concerts will be the culmination of our Exiles in Hollywood Festival. I have been looking forward to performing this program all season. Not only are we featuring great music that is underperformed, but Miklos Rozsa's Overture to a Symphony Concert has a fantastically fun bass trombone part! Jennifer Frautschi is performing Erich Wolgang Korngold's Violin Concerto with us and sounds incredible.

Dorothy Lamb Crawford will give pre-concert lectures and sign copies of her new book, A Windfall of Musicians. Here are details of this weekend's program.

• RÓZSA: Overture to a Symphony Concert
• KORNGOLD: Violin Concerto
• WAXMAN: Sinfonietta for Strings and Timpani
• STRAUSS: Suite from "Der Rosenkavalier"

I had a lot of fun introducing the ESO's film series that led up to this weekend's concerts. The final film of the series was Alfred Hitchcock's Rebecca, scored by Franz Waxman.
